The development of a narrative self

Following you can see two examples of mother-child conversations of a shared past event when children were 3 years of age.

The first transcript (Example 1) shows a conversation in the context of the rural Nso in Cameroon. The second transcript (Example 2) shows a conversation in the context of urban Berlin in Germany. In brackets you can always see two to four codes, one for the structure and the remaining for the content of a coding unit. The coding unit for structure is propositions in independent clauses, whereas the coding unit for content is subject-verb constructions in independent as well dependent clauses.

Autonomy oriented characteristics are marked in green and relational oriented characteristics are marked in red.
